2007 BAND CAMP

Welcome to the 2007 Band Camp! The most important 9 days of the entire year. Learning an entire show, memorizing the music, and knowing where you are supposed to be on every foot of the field is an amazing thing.  Parents are always awestruck that their child can remember that much (wish they could do the same in math class).  Football fans are pumped up at every game watching a flashy and exiting  half-time show with music, sets and costumes.  And how do we accomplish all of this and still have time for homework?  The answer is: BAND CAMP.  Attendance is crucial to not only learn the music thoroughly, but to have a spot on the field. If one person doesn't show up, there will be a hole on the field, and the overall visual effect is lost.  It's a lot of work, but it's fun too!

Schedule: As noted in your band book, here is the schedule for Band Camp:

August 13-17 M-F Band Camp 7:30AM - 2:30PM
August 18 Sat Band Camp 9:00AM - 5:00PM
August 20-22 M-W Band Camp 7:30AM - 2:30PM
 (August 22) W POTLUCK 6:30PM

What happens at Band Camp?  Your attendance is crucial to the success of the entire band, as well as your own personal success.  This past year, of those members who missed band camp, only TWO stayed in band.  Those who missed Band Camp were so far behind that they felt lost.   We work on the music SLOWLY so everyone can play it and memorize it (the older members help the new members a lot).  We work on the BASICS of marching, so it becomes more natural and we set the first half of our competitive field show.  We not only learn the music and the marching, but we begin to build our cooperative spirit.  Here is where we lay the foundation of our team attitude.  We develop a family atmosphere that lasts through the entire year.  Here is where the freshmen make lots of new friends and "fit-in", while the veterans develop their leadership skills and renew their friendships.  During Band Camp we have many activities designed to bring the group together.  We have the "Name Game" so everyone gets to know each other.  We have softball games, and Pizza parties.  We also have movie nights and swim parties.  In short, at the end of band camp, the individuals have become a TEAM.  Students, who miss band camp, miss out on the positions they desire and serve as alternates until permanent spots can be found.

All incoming students and selected returning students must attend Basics Camp in order to secure a spot in the show.

Only the students who attend all of Band Camp will receive a Band Camp T-shirt free. (They should easily complete their marching card.) Missing any part of a day counts either as a ½ day or a whole day (rounded-up).  If a student misses more than a total of 2 days of Band Camp, they will not receive a Band Camp T-shirt and they may not have a spot in the show.  However, if they have completed their marching card before the potluck dinner, they will be eligible to purchase a Band Camp T-shirt ($15.00).
